It was more than 30 years ago, in 1971 that Al turned a hobby into a business doing residential remodeling. Friends suggested upon seeing his early proficiency with a hammer that he name his business The Purple Thumb.

His first kitchen cabinet showroom opened in 1974 in Janesville, WI. After moving back home to New Jersey in 1977, he opened a showroom in Voorhees. Desiring to display a variety of quality custom cabinetry, he quickly outgrew his first showroom and relocated to the present location in Somerdale in 1983.

Al has attended many design schools presented by cabinet manufacturers as well as National Kitchen & Bath Association sponsored schools. His "in the field" remodeling experience and professional schooling in design gives The Purple Thumb the unique advantage and expertise for "design to completion" projects for the homeowner.

Al has been a member with the local chapter of NKBA and also served as treasurer. When not involved in his business, Al has served as chairman of his local planning and zoning board for over 27 years. His free time is spent on the links, enjoying the company of good friends.

Upon graduation from the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1985 with a degree in Interior Design, Marcy began working for a residential interior design firm located in Cherry Hill, NJ. Specialties included total home design, but kitchen design is where she felt most at home. In 1989, Mary began her career at The Purple Thumb as a designer, and over the years has evolved into Sales and Project Management.

In 1993, Marcy passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Exam. This exam sets the standards for all interior designers in the country. In that same year, she was enrolled as a professional member of The American Society of Interior Design (ASID). With over 27 years experience, Marcy has the skills and creativity required dream spaces for our clients.

Her free time is spent with her husbandm family and friends, enjoying life to the fullest.
